August 2020 – What’s Streaming this Month
The Umbrella Academy – Season 2 (Netflix)
Okay, so technically this one came out on July 31st, but close enough. Odds are we’ll be watching it in August. Season one last year was pretty good, and based off the clip that Netflix released this week, it’s looking like bar is being raised for a fun season two. Available July 31st.
Work It (Netflix)
Anyone that has ever watched Vevo with the guys from TMB on a random Saturday night have seen a lot of random music videos. Remember that one with the teenage blonde singing about Thumbs on a train? Well that’s Sabrina Carpenter and apparently Netflix decided to cast her as the lead in one of their original movies.
Looks like Work it will be some combination of Pitch Perfect and Stomp the Yard, about a girl who can’t dance, but wants to join her college’s fabled dance team. This will probably suck, but I will definitely be watching. Available August 7th.
Project Power – (Netflix)
Superhero movie! But with Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and MGK… so maybe it’ll be alright? The twist on this one is that the story revolves around a pill which gives you abilities for about five minutes. Combine drug trade with superpowers with Foxx and JGL and I think we have something worth watching. Available August 14th.
Cobra Kai – Seasons 1 and 2 (Netflix)
While the spinoff of The Karate Kid isn’t a new show, this is the first time that it has been readily available on the most popular streaming service. Not everyone has/had Youtube Premium, but now they get to watch the OG Karate Kid gang without it. I’ve heard good things about Cobra Kai and I would imagine that this will appeal to those who have and haven’t seen the original movies. Ralph! Available August 28th.
Chemical Hearts (Amazon Prime)
Looking for that high school rom-com this month? Chemical Hearts will probably be the one to watch. Featuring rising stars Austin Abrams and Lili Reinhart, it looks like the two fall in love, but run into complications as Lili’s character was in an accident which has left her partially handicapped. Available August 21st.
The Binge (Hulu)
Little is known about this Hulu Original with no trailer released yet, but here’s what IMDB has to say: “Set in a time where all drugs and alcohol are illegal, the only day anyone can participate in the “fun” is on Binge day.” Starring Vince Vaughn and written by some guy I’ve never heard of, I’m feeling good about The Binge a howler. Available August 28th.
Harley Quinn (HBOMax)
Felt like this was important to note. This DC Universe original cartoon came out last fall and is not available on HBOMax. It is HYSTERICAL. Very worth the watch and also very R… hide your kids. Available August 1st.
