Sean’s Rankings of Every TV Show from 2020
#37 – #23: Didn’t Blow!
37.) Love is Blind – Season 1
A reality show that I didn’t completely hate. Who would’ve thought?! I’m not sure how good a second season will be now that the surprise factor is mostly gone, but might as well give it a shot.
36.) The Wilds – Season 1
Described to me as a combination of Lost and The Society, which is ridiculous because you can just say Lord of the Flies, but only with girls. Opinion of the show is NOT based on the first episode, which is kinda boring. But then the hook comes and it ramps up from there. Decent potential here.
35.) In the Dark – Season 2
Earlier this month, I needed something light, and this provided it. Season 1 is definitely better than Season 2 as the second is utterly ridiculous, but watching a sassy blind woman solve murder mysteries while becoming a drug mule is actually pretty entertaining!
34.) Agents of SHIELD – Season 7
Final season shoutout to the OG show of the MCU. Gotta give the showrunners and actors props as the first season of this show was NOT GOOD. With the exception of Season 6, the show evolved and got better every year and the final season was a fun one. Apparently this is a good show to watch when doing cardio at the gym…
33.) Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 7
If this was based off just the final four episodes of the season, it could have been in the top 20. But, alas, the first eight episodes of the season stunk and we’re in the thirties. If you liked episode five of The Mandalorian this season, you should take 90 minutes and watch these final episodes, as they are some of the best Star Wars content out there.
32.) Dash and Lily – Season 1
Nice, quick, little Holiday special! Austin Abrams is great.
31.) Locke and Key – Season 1
I’m not sure how good this show is… but remember the criteria. It has a unique concept, I enjoyed it a lot, and there were a number of twists I didn’t see coming. That doesn’t happen too much these days.
30.) A Teacher
I actually had to move this up a few spots after watching the finale this week. Until you’ve watched all of it, you really don’t understand how well this show puts you in the moment of the relationship between teacher and student. Don’t get me wrong, it’s super messed up! But also a good watch.
29.) Tehran – Season 1
Think Homeland, but with Mossad, Israeli Intelligence. It’s a solid watch, but 90-95% of the show is not in English, so pay attention!
28.) His Dark Materials – Season 2
Much better than season 1, I thought, but it still feels like this show has the potential to be in the Top 10 with the source material they have to work with. Dafne Keen is missing the fire she brought to Logan a few years back, but whines a whole lot less this season. Third and final season should be the best.
27.) Dead to Me – Season 2
When I finally watched it, I was entertained, but felt like this would have been better as a one and done. Season 1 was fantastic.
26.) Killing Eve – Season 3
Ultimately I was disappointed with Killing Eve this season. It’s a great show, no doubt, but I can’t help but feel that there has been a major departure from the greatness of Season 1. The show thrives off the chemistry between Eve and Villanelle, yet they barely shared any scenes together this year. It’s too bad, but Villanelle is still my favorite character on television…. probably… until I think of someone else.
25.) The Politician – Season 2
Ended up liking this more than the first season as the show has evolved nicely. A third and final season looks to be pretty fun.
24.) Alex Rider – Season 1
Loved the books when I was in high school. The “teenager who has been unknowingly trained to be a secret agent his whole life” idea has all the potential in the world, but the movie 10 years back was very poorly executed. The rebooted series by IMDB (who knew!) is a lot of fun though. After taking a couple episodes to get truly invested, the back half of this season is action packed.
23.) Stargirl – Season 1
Don’t sleep on Stargirl! This was probably my biggest surprise of the year. What initially looked to be a lame superhero show ended up being a fun combination of the classic Super Friends and the more recent Riverdale. The show leans into it’s cartoonish nature just the right amount and provides several great fight sequences. Hopefully HBO doesn’t muck up season 2.
