Sean’s Favorite Movies of 2021: Ranking All 66 Movies Watched this Year
2021 has come and gone and so has another year of watching movies. After it was all said and done, I watched 66 movies released in 2021, 14 of which were seen in theaters. Obviously most of these were streamed. Some notes on the rankings before we get into it:
- This ranking is a ranking of my favorite movies of the year, not necessarily what I consider to be the “best”. While that is a factor, it comes nowhere near my enjoyment factor.
- I saw most of these movies once this year. Unlike TV shows, it generally takes me multiple viewings to come to a final determination of my liking of the movie. Saying that, there is a very good chance that these rankings are very different in a year or two. But for now, this is what we got.
- I have yet to see many movies released in 2021. I’ve missed out on many Oscar contenders and favorites across the board, but if we’re being honest, I didn’t watch because I just didn’t want to. Unlike TV shows, I don’t watch every movie that exists.
That’s it! Here are my rankings of 2021 movies that I watched this year:
#66 – #59: The Hot Garbage
These just weren’t worth watching, or were just a massive disappointment. Will not be watching again.
66.) Stars Fell on Alabama
65.) Locked Down
64.) To All the Boys: Always and Forever
These just got so much worse with every movie. Sad.
63.) The Little Things
Kicked the year off with this one and boy was it awful.
62.) Chaos Walking
61.) Trust
60.) Deadly Illusions
59.) We Broke Up
#58 – #46: Not the Best!
58.) He’s All That
57.) A Week Away
56.) Gunpowder Milkshake
55.) Infinite
54.) The Kissing Booth: Part 3
Disappointing to see how uninspired the third and final installment of The Kissing Booth was after a pretty solid first couple entries.
53.) Moxie
52.) Reminiscence
51.) Venom: Let There be Carnage
50.) Vacation Friends
49.) Outside the Wire
Netflix action movies have less than a 50% chance of landing at this point. Nothing really happens in this movie, with the best action scene being short and inconsequential to the movie’s outcome.
48.) The Vault
47.) SAS: Rise of the Black Swan
46.) Body Brokers
#45 – #34: These were fine. Would watch again.
45.) Raya and the Last Dragon
Disney movies usually land with me, but this one couldn’t get there. Maybe a little bit too much going on?
44.) Voyagers
43.) Love Hard
42.) Malcolm and Marie
Great acting. Okay Movie.
41.) Pieces of a Woman
Same as the last. Great stuff from Kirby. Fine movie.
40.) Stowaway
39.) One Night in Miami
38.) Sweet Girl
37.) Jolt
Jolt was better than I thought it would be. Short, fun movie. Beckinsale can always be depended on.
36.) Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse
35.) Luca
Opposite of Raya, this was short and can only wish we had gotten more.
34.) The Matrix Resurrections
This is the classic scenario where I need to see the movie five or six more times. I liked it, but similar to the original, it’s hard to follow at times when you haven’t seen it. It was the opposite of the first two sequels with more dialogue than fighting, but in the future I’d like to see a better mix of the two.
